Taking the plunge...

A few weeks back Matt and I decided to set a date to surprise the girls with a trip to an indoor water park in the snowy cold of February. That date finally arrived last week during a short week of school. We didn't tell our girls a thing. They didn't even know I had packed a suitcase, swim bag, air mattress, snacks and my much needed and beloved pillow. Matt came home from work early and we played dumb telling the girls we were going for a little drive. A few minutes in they of course start asking what in the world is going on. We divert their attention with a quick stop at Casey's. Upon pulling up to a hotel Kate is onto us like an ant on sugar. "Why are we at a hotel? Are we staying here? I smell chlorine. Did you pack our swim suits? They have a pool right? Why are we in this city?" And so on. We find our room, change into our suits and lead them to the double doors with the water park waiting on the other side. Matt and I together open the doors and you would have thought Christmas, Easter and Halloween were happening at the exact same moment.

It was a super fun trip with not enough sleep, but isn't that the case for every over night with kids? Unfortunately being pregnant I couldn't go down any water slides and I somehow got it in my head that I wasn't going to get very wet. I was kind of cold and wanted to be as dry as possible. And then I realized I was being such an adult. How did I get so boring? I love water slides and diving boards. So I made the decision to go after it. CJ and I stood below the enormous bucket of water waiting for it to dump thousands of gallons onto our heads and when it did I reverted back to the Sarah I know and love. I sprayed the girls with hoses. I "accidentally" walked below troughs of water where my girls just happened to be waiting for me to walk under. We chased each other through the lazy river, played family water basketball and ran through sprayers.

Sometimes boredom is a conscious decision. Doing what we know is good for us and our family takes effort and right now I am dog tired carrying around this big belly. But when CJ pulls out the puffy stickers, or Kate is walking around on her mini-stilts, or Natalie is asking me to have a dance party I try my hardest to remember little Sarah. Oh did I love little Sarah. Her best friends were My Little Ponies. Her favorite scent was the smell of Strawberry Shortcake the doll. Little Sarah rode her bike and skateboard and pretended to be an Olympian. She jumped on her Pogo-ball like it was nobody's business. She ate bologna, wore fleece, red overalls and really adored both her fluffy kitty cat and her Bon Jovi posters. We are all that kid from childhood but now we have adult responsibilities. Just remember every now and then how much fun life can be when you put aside the monotonous work of being an adult. Who cares if you are cold, cannonball into the pool because life can be really fun when we try.

This picture is from summer 2014. I didn't take any photos of our trip but I think you get the idea.

"...you would have thought Christmas, Easter and Halloween were happening at the exact same moment." Love it!! Such fun parents :) The girls will remember those moments forever, and it will shape them into some pretty awesome and spontaneous adults. Good job Mom & Dad.
