ISU in Waterloo...
Our house may be white on the outside but inside it's veins pump cardinal and gold. And it's all by the design of my Cyclone fanatic husband. So when the annual Cyclone Carnival makes it's way to Waterloo each May, Matt makes sure all us girls are there with ISU shirts and the camera on.
We did however have one little girl who wasn't quite in the mood to change into ISU gear, a big girl who was playing in an away soccer match and an even bigger girl (ahem) who can't fit into her ISU clothes anymore.
One of said girls was a wee bit frightened at the thought of posing with CY while the biggest girl in the house (again, I think we can all figure out who we're talking about) is not nearly as photogenic as the little girls so I she usually stays behind the camera.
I like the three people in the background hunched over the table like they are investigating something really intriguing. I think, however, they were just signing up for a give-away.
Matt finally convinced CJ to pose in a picture with CY but she seems to be a bit skeptical, don't you think?
We also found out Kate is one foot away from being as tall as one of ISU's best gymnasts and that I am taller than Shontrelle Johnson. (Notice the sign.)
We were fortunate enough to get a family photo with basketball player, Melvin Ejim. Speaking of height, Matt was proud to be nearly as tall as him. Apparently height is kind of a big deal in our family.
And lo and behold, the Cyclone Carnival did not disappoint. Once again this year they littered the parking lot with bouncy tents, slides and all sorts of other things that tire out little kids. That is just fine by me.
The 'carnival' portion usually wraps up after an hour or two and that's when coaches give speeches and get the crowd all riled up for another season of football or men's basketball or women's basketball. It is semi-interesting (sorry Matt) but one little girl in the Craft bunch is usually ready to get the heck out of there. So the two of us sneaked out and found ourselves in the sweet air conditioning of Dairy Queen. She was cool with it.
So another great year was had by all Crafts at the Cyclone Carnival except that we couldn't nail down Bill Fennelly, women's basketball coach. It has become a tradition to get our photo taken with him each year and Matt always updates him on Kate's height and basketball skills despite the ripe, young age of five. Annually he tries in vain to convince Coach Fennelly to sign her for a scholarship but this year we missed our chance. Dang it. I'm sure she'll impress him next year when she is as tall as her mom and yet only six years old.
