Heart shaped pasta...
I hear a lot of people complain on Facebook about status updates involving what people ate for dinner. I agree with the complainers, most of the time, unless it is something super awesome that I would want the recipe for. So, because I am probably one of those annoying this-is-what-I-ate-for-dinner people, I thought I'd do a whole blog post about what I ate for supper. And then you can complain about me on Facebook.
For dinner the other night I had heart shaped pasta...
Yes, I actually sat the bag of pasta on my windowsill to take a picture.
I thought it might look like a more interesting background than my kitchen counter.
But instead it looks like...well, like maybe I don't have cabinets or something.
Moving on...
So, you know that old saying, "a watched pot never boils?" Well it does...eventually. I stood there watching and staring, staring and watching partially out of boredom and partially out of excitement for heart shaped pasta. And because I felt the water was never, ever going to boil I actually tried a dried heart shaped noodle. It tasted like...a dried heart shaped noodle.
Also while I was waiting I took some pics of the noodles so you would believe me they are in fact heart shaped.
(In case you couldn't tell from my lovely windowsill photo.)
Once the water boiled I tried to take a picture of the heart shaped noodles boiling but this happened.
So I took one like this but all you will probably notice is how dirty my stovetop is. Please avert your eyes.
Pop quiz: How do you ruin a perfectly good, expensive bag of heart shaped pasta direct from Italy via HyVee?
Use Ragu pasta sauce and enjoy with a $3 bottle of wine from Aldi.
But hey I'd already spent x number of dollars on Italian heart shaped pasta, I didn't want to spend anymore on fancy bread, wine, and sauce. Come on people. :)
(Actually, both the wine and the sauce were quite good.)
In the end the girls loved the heart shaped noodles.
So much more fun than the regular ol' spaghetti.
And dinner looked like this.
And after dinner and dessert the girls looked like this...
Who doesn't love s'mores!
